Kinect Represented Rare’s Need to ‘Do Something Different’

Rare studio head Craig Duncan is proud of the work his team did for Kinect, and speaking to IGN, he highlighted the studio's desire to take on the unique challenges the technology presented, as well as the cool things Rare was able to accomplish with Kinect Sports.

"Everything I've ever done, I've learned... and I think Kinect is the ultimate kind of version of that," Duncan said on the latest episode of our monthly interview show IGN Unfiltered. He highlighted the challenge in developing games for a controller that uses an entirely different form of input and how that type of challenge appeals to Rare's sensibilities.

Planned Doctor Doom Movie Inspired By Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Legion creator, Noah Hawley, has shared some of the ideas he's working on for his in-development Doctor Doom film, saying that he's taken inspiration from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

In an interview with the Observer, Hawley described how he wants to do something that falls outside of the standard superhero fare we've come to see throughout the genre.

“What’s interesting to me about Doom’s character is he’s the king of an Eastern European country and is there a version of this that is more of a political thriller that mixes genre?

Pacific Rim Uprising: What Happened to Raleigh Becket?

SPOILERS ahead for Pacific Rim Uprising.

Charlie Hunnam’s Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket may have been the hero of Guillermo del Toro's original Pacific Rim, but there’s barely a mention of him in its sequel Pacific Rim Uprising, now in theaters.

Hunnam was initially supposed to star in Pacific Rim 2, but a scheduling conflict with another project, a remake of Papillon, arose and the PacRim filmmakers opted to give the sequel a creative overhaul, which led to Pacific Rim Uprising revolving around John Boyega’s Jake Pentecost instead.

Uprising is set a decade after the original film so anything could’ve befallen Raleigh in those ensuing years. When I interviewed the Uprising star-producer back in August 2017, Boyega said Raleigh Becket was dead even though his character survived the first movie.

Wolverine’s Death and Return Are a Big Mess

Wolverine finally made his return last year in the Marvel Legacy one-shot after dying back in 2014, but it’s hard to get too excited about Logan’s return. It all boils down to two major problems. The first has to do with how his replacement, Laura Kinney aka X-23, was mishandled during her time as Wolverine. And the second is how they’re choosing to tell the story of Logan’s return in the least reader-friendly way possible.

The Death of Wolverine mini-series took Logan off the board, and then a year later in 2015, X-23 took up his mantle and became the All-New Wolverine. This was a momentous occasion for Laura because she was finally allowed to take the next step in her journey to move past being an assassin and grow into a fully-fledged superhero. But it’s mostly all downhill from there.

Nintendo Opens Its E3 2018 Website

Although we're still a few months away from this year's E3, with conferences beginning June 10 and the expo floor opening up between June 12 and 14, that doesn't mean that the bigwigs of the gaming industry haven't already started setting their plans in motion, as evidenced by Nintendo's unveiling of its own E3 website.

Although the site itself is currently quite bare-boned, with just a promise that more details will be announced further down the line, the site does feature a reminder about Nintendo's two major tournaments that will be running throughout E3, with both the Super Smash Bros International and the Splatoon 2 World Championship getting a plug.

Lagiacrus Will Not be in Monster Hunter: World

One of the Monster Hunter series' flagship monsters, the leviathan Lagiacrus, will not be making an appearance in Monster Hunter World's future content updates.

During a postmortem at GDC,  Game Director Yuya Tokuda confirmed that that the formidable Lord of the Sea isn't planned to rear its head in the title, although it was present in the game's prototype.

The prototype gameplay footage, worked on for a year and a half, was used to demonstrate the new environmental systems, proving that a hunter could survive confrontations without drawing their weapon, and relying on environmental features alone.

It followed a hunter tracking an Anjanath through what looked like the Ancient Forest area from the finished game, and being pursued up a cliff. The confrontation ended with the pair being swept off the cliff in a cascading waterfall, with the Lagiacrus emerging from the water to finish off the Anjanath.

The Adventure Pals Arrives On All Platforms Next Month

Developer Massive Monster has announced that its Kickstarter-funded platformer The Adventure Pals, published by Armor Games, will be arriving simultaneously on all platforms, coming to PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on April 3.

The Adventure Pals is a side-scrolling action-adventure platformer which features RPG elements and two-player local drop-in/drop-out co-operative play. The game definitely leans towards the whimsical - whilst playing through its 105 levels, players can expect to encounter "zombie pirate cats, post-apocalyptic dinosaurs and hot dogs that poop explosive mines", which is an image that may stay with you forever.
