Star Wars Movies That Need to Happen

With Star Wars: The Last Jedi about to hit theaters, fans are very focused on the continued evolution of the Skywalker saga, but let's not forget that the standalone films -- or "Star Wars Stories" -- are also very much a thing. Rogue One was a hit, the young Han Solo film, Solo, is on its way, and Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is also working on a trilogy of films that is said to involve all new characters (whether or not these are considered part of the "A Star Wars Story" group remains to be seen).

Basically, there’s a vast appetite for more live-action adventures in the Star Wars universe even with tales that fall outside of the main saga. And while Disney and Lucasfilm may have rendered the Expanded Universe (the books, movies, games, etc. from before The Force Awakens) stories non-canon, the franchise still has an incredibly expansive mythology that’s only getting bigger. With that said, here are several Star Wars Stories that we would love to see get made -- from ancient Jedi to Underworld to Obi-Wan and more. Click through for all of our picks...

Mads Mikkelsen Wants to Be Spider-Man

Although he is best known for playing psychotic villains, from Le Chiffre in Casino Royale to Kaecilius in Doctor Strange and Hannibal Lecter, Mads Mikkelsen told the audience at last weekend’s Tokyo Comic Con that he would love to have the chance to play one of the most iconic heroes of all time.

“If I had to pick one hero that I would love to play, that would be an older version of Spider-Man,” said Mikkelsen. “I’ll do that.”

During an interview on site at Tokyo Comic Con, IGN Japan asked him to elaborate. What kind of Spider-Man would he play?

“I’d be an old one, obviously!” laughed Mikkelsen.

“The funny thing about him being called Spider-Man is ironic, because he’s always been a boy,” he said. “In the films he has been a teenage boy, and also in the comic books.

Dying Light Getting a Standalone Battle Royale Expansion

A standalone, Battle Royale-inspired Dying Light expansion will be released in 2018, Techland announced today.

Called Dying Light: Bad Blood, the multiplayer expansion features "PvP and PvE styles of gameplay, while retaining the core of Dying Light’s unique experience," according to Techland. In the new mode, each match begins with six players being dropped into a "zombie-infested area." The goal is to collect enough zombie blood samples to earn a spot on the extraction helicopter "before the night falls."

SOS Makes Your Mic a Vital Tool, and that May Be a Mistake

One of the first things developer Outpost Games told us at a preview event for their upcoming battle royale shooter SOS was that your microphone was one of the most important tools in the game. I immediately got nervous.

Generally in online games, I'll quickly mute the mics of opposing players to stem the tide of obscenities being hurled my way, but SOS has decided to embrace the microphone. The 16-player FPS casts every participant as a member of a fictional reality TV show similar to a high-stakes Survivor. You win matches by searching an island, finding one of three relics, then escaping with it on a helicopter - but that’s only half the game.

Carrie Fisher’s Dog Cameos in Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Carrie Fisher's therapy dog, Gary, is in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Star Wars fan Clair Henry spotted Gary in a promotional still for the upcoming film in what appears to be a very well hidden cameo appearance.

As you can see in the left side of the image below, a brown alien creature can be spotted looking directly into the camera. Director Rian Johnson has confirmed this little creature is indeed Gary, who has been touched up with CGI to look like an alien pet.

Death Stranding: Mads Mikkelsen’s Role May Not Be What You Think

Mads Mikkelsen has revealed a little insight into his character in Death Stranding. Talking to IGN Japan during Tokyo Comic Con last weekend, he avoided giving away specifics, but hinted that his character may not simply be a villain as many have assumed. That is, if Hideo Kojima’s past form is anything to go by.

“The characters are very dualistic in (Kojima’s) games: There is no such thing as a bad guy or a good guy in his games,” Mikkelsen said.

“It is all a challenge; you have to go through these characters to achieve certain things. And it’s also a learning curve, and they will be an obstacle for you sometimes, and sometimes they will be a help for you.”

Mikkelsen went on to suggest that the roles of Death Stranding’s characters may shift as the plot unfolds. “(Kojima’s) games are not as black and white as Hollywood is sometimes,” he said. “So there are more nuances of gray in his world. You’ll have to encounter these characters in different ways throughout the game.”

Far Cry 5 Has Been Delayed

Ubisoft has delayed two of its upcoming games, Far Cry 5 and The Crew 2, as well as one unannounced title.

Far Cry 5's release date has been pushed back for one month and will come out on March 27, 2018 instead of its originally announced release date of February 27, 2018. Meanwhile, The Crew 2 will now be released sometime in the first half of the 2018-2019 fiscal year rather than on March 16, 2018. That fiscal year runs from April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019.

In addition, Ubisoft also delayed a third, unannounced franchise title. The game, originally planned for release in the 2018-19 fiscal year, will now come out in the 2019-2020 fiscal year instead. This unknown game is the reason for the delays is to allow developers more time to work on these three games. This is an approach, Ubisoft notes, the company took with past titles like Assassin's Creed Origins.
