Deadwood Movie Has a ‘Terrific Script,’ Says HBO Boss

At long last, there is an update on HBO's long in development planned Deadwood movie. HBO president of HBO programming Casey Bloys spoke at the 2017 summer TV Critics' Association about how he's read David Milch's script and is still looking to make the TV film happen.

"I read the script. The one thing I was concerned about is I wanted a script that would stand on its own," said Bloys. "I'm happy to say that David totally delivered on that. I think it's a terrific script."

It's not full steam ahead on the Deadwood movie yet, though. Bloys says the biggest hurdles yet to be cleared are finding "a budget that makes sense for us," a director and reuniting the cast. If they're able to do those things, "we're inclined to do it. But we have to get over those hurdles. But the good news is the script was terrific," said Bloys.

HBO Confirms No Existing Characters in GoT Spinoffs

HBO is still in development on four confirmed in-development Game of Thrones prequel series, but don't expect any of them to debut until at least a year after the main series' final episode airs.

"The number one priority in all of this is the final season of Game of Thrones. I don't want any spinoff or anything that detracts or distracts from that," HBO president Casey Bloys told members of the press during a small group interview at the 2017 summer TV Critics' Association press tour. "That season will happen, my guess is it would be at least a year before you saw anything else. What I don't want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing, and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after it. I think it's best to separate it, and that's what we'll do."

Fortnite Hits 500,000 Digital Pre-Orders

Epic's co-op survival game Fortnite has hit a major sales milestone.

Fortnite creative director Darren Sugg revealed on Twitter that the long-gestating title had sold over 500,000 digital pre-order copies. This number doesn't reflect the full number of sales after the game's release, nor does it take into account how many retail pre-order copies were sold.

"Absolutely humbled by the response to this week's @FortniteGame launch," Sugg tweeted. "500k+ digital pre-order sales and just getting started! Thank YOU."

Fornite has been in the works for quite some time and was first announced over five years ago. For more on the cartoony co-op survival game, which launched yesterday as a Early Access title, check out IGN's tips and tricks for the game, as well as all of its achievements/trophies and how to unlock them.

Marvel Announces New Star Wars Writer

Changes are coming to Marvel's ongoing Star Wars comic, as writer Jason Aaron will be stepping down from the series after October's Star Wars #37. Replacing him will be another writer plenty familiar to Star Wars readers - Kieron Gillen.

Current artist Salvador Larroca will remain on board on the series. Larroca also drew all 25 issues of Star Wars: Darth Vader Vol. 1 with Gillen.

“My aim’s simple – to do what Salva and I did with Darth Vader, but for Leia, Luke and Han. As in, chart the rise and fall of the Rebellion between A New Hope and the Empire Strikes Back, how it changes them all and how it changes the universe,” Gillen told StarWars.com. “So a simple aim, but as nightmarishly tricky to pull off as dropping a proton torpedo down a thermal exhaust port. But hopefully as thrilling if we pull it off. I can’t wait till you see it up. First up: the post-apocalyptic hell that remains of Jedha after the Death Star punched a hole through its mantle.”
