X-Men: Simon Kinberg on Possibility of Directing Supernova

X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg addressed some of the rumors surrounding the next entry in Fox's mutant-minded film franchise, saying if he were to helm the project, he would probably take a "very collaborative" approach.

In interview with ComingSoon.net, Kinberg was asked about the recent report that the next X-men movie may serve as his directorial debut, reaffirming that no official announcement has been made, but that they're "prepping the film" and "excited to get back into telling the story of the mainland X-Men."

Doom Co-Directors on Potential for Sequel

2016’s Doom, after a years-long production that saw id transition from what was known as Doom 4 to the game released last year, released to critical and commercial success. And the team behind the game certainly sees more life left in that refresh of the classic shooter franchise.

“We left ourselves a really, really amazing canvas and a lot of colors to paint with going forward,” Doom co-director Marty Stratton said to IGN during DICE 2017 in regard to whether id software is interested in new projects or continuing to explore this new iteration of Doom.

Mario and Crew Lend Their Costumes to Story of Seasons

The newest game in the Story of Seasons series, Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns, features Super Mario Bros. themed costumes and headgear.

The costumes and headgear give your characters bonuses. Donning Mario's signature hat and overalls gives you a boost to your running, while dressing like Luigi helps you catch better fish. Toad's outfit will increase your stamina for tilling the fields, while Peach's pink dress and tiara make you into a better, nicer friend.

You can also pet dogs. Just stop what you're doing, and pet a dog, and go about your day with the warm glow that hangs about your soul after interacting with a nice dog.

Story of Seasons: Trio of Towns is the second game in the series under the "Story of Seasons" title. Previously, the game was known as Harvest Moon, and that series helped lay the groundwork for games like Stardew Valley.

The Best GPUs

Editor's Note: We realize the mining craze has caused significant disruption to the GPU market, with many GPUs either out of stock or priced well above MSRP. We are not factoring these conditions into our recommendations, but leaving them as-is based on MSRP with the hope that things will soon return to normal. Note that if you click on one of these links to buy the product, IGN may get a share of the sale. For more, read our Terms of UseLast updated: JULY 10, 2017.

When we're old and sitting in our rocking chairs on the porch we'll look back fondly on the years 2016 and 2017, wipe a tear from our eye, and regale our grandkids about the move to 14nm and 16nm FinFET GPUs. "Your granddad had 100fps at 1440p," we'll tell our grandkids as they ignore us while ensconced in their 32k VR simulations. They won't understand, of course, how amazing the year 2016 was in terms of GPU advancements, but it can't be understated. Not only did we finally move from 28nm planar transistors all the way down to 14/16nm 3D FinFET, but the accompanying performance boost from one generation to the next was one of the largest ever recorded in modern times. Instead of the typical 10 to 20 percent boosts we experience going from one generation of silicon to the next, we saw a 60 to 80 percent boost. Frame rates skyrocketed, 4k gaming became viable with a single GPU, and laptops were able to sport desktop-class graphics for the first time due to improvements in efficiency as well. It was (and still is) a great time to be alive, indeed.

Hulk / Wolverine Hybrid Teased by Marvel EiC

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso tweeted a teaser image with the words "Under Construction" featuring what appears to be a Wolverine/Hulk hybrid in a lab.

The mysterious image shows the green body of the Hulk with Wolverine's signature claws coming out of each hand. On the tube it says "Batch H" which doesn't immediately relate to any per-existing Marvel experiments or organizations, although it does remind us of Weapon X, the program that created Wolverine. We're assuming the "H" stands for "Hulk," at the very least.

CW’s Next DC Crossover to Likely Truly Involve All 4 Shows

After not truly being involved in The CW's big crossover with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, it sounds like Supergirl may actually dedicate a full episode to the network's next big show-merging event.

IGN attended a screening of next week's episode of Supergirl, during which executive producer Andrew Kreisberg discussed the possibility of a future crossover during a Q&A. He said that while there aren't plans to do a big crossover this year, "next year, we're hoping to do a true four-way crossover."

While Melissa Beonist's Kara Zor-El appeared in last year's "Invasion" crossover with Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, the Supergirl series itself didn't actually dedicate an entire episode to the big event, instead including only a very brief stinger at the end of an episode to set up the other shows. In addition, none of the show's supporting cast appeared during the crossover.

Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki Is Coming Out of Retirement

Hayao Miyazaki, the co-founder of Studio Ghibli and director of some of the most beloved anime films of all time, has once again announced he's coming out of retirement to direct a new movie.

According to Little White Lies, Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki confirmed in a pre-Oscars interview with Pixar director Pete Docter that the Japanese animation studio will be back to producing feature-length movies in-house, and Miyazaki will helm its first full-length CG-animated movie.

Miyazaki's in-development CG project was originally conceived as a short film titled Kemushi no Boro, echoing a report that surfaced last year suggesting he may come out of retirement. The director has been outspoken in his dislike for CG animation in the past, but has apparently warmed up to the technology and been learning how to animate using a computer.
