Philip Pullman Writing New His Dark Materials Trilogy

17 years since its conclusion, author Philip Pullman has announced The Book of Dust, a new trilogy set in the His Dark Materials universe(s).

Writing via his website, Pullman explains that the first two volumes feature heroine Lyra Belacqua in two periods of her life – as a child and 10 years following the climax of His Dark Materials. The new series will include characters readers will be familiar with as well as creations such as alethimeters, daemons, and the Magisterium.

“…is it a prequel? Is it a sequel? It’s neither,” writes Pullam. “In fact, The Book of Dust is… an equel. It doesn’t stand before or after His Dark Materials, but beside it. It’s a different story, but there are settings that readers of His Dark Materials will recognise, and characters they’ve met before. Also, of course, there are some characters who are new to us, including an ordinary boy (a boy we have seen in an earlier part of Lyra’s story, if we were paying attention) who, with Lyra, is caught up in a terrifying adventure that takes him into a new world.

Lego Worlds Delayed by Two Weeks

The Minecraft-inspired Lego Worlds has been delayed by two weeks.

Writing over on the PlayStation blog, Associate Producer at TT Games, Chris Rose, says the blocky build-‘em-up is now coming in March. Although Rose didn’t mention a fixed date, a Warner Bros. representative tells IGN the game is set for release on March 7 in North America and March 10 in Europe. We asked for clarification as to whether the new release dates include the recently-announced Switch version, and will update once we hear back.

Apocalypse Now Game Quits Kickstarter, Asks for $5 Million

The developer for Apocalypse Now has relocated the campaign to its own crowdfunding site after failing to secure funding via Kickstarter.

To date, the Kickstarter drive - which describes the game as "like Fallout: New Vegas on acid in Vietnam" - has secured just $172,969 of the $900K target with just nine days left to go.

Unlike Kickstarter, there's no finite end date for the campaign on the new site, and backers will not be charged until the full amount has been raised. Pledges made to the original Kickstarter project can move their backing to the new platform, where every "hardcore" backer will receive a reward tier upgrade, essentially getting the rewards of the next tier up for no extra cost.

FIFA 18 on Switch Shown Off for the First Time

A Japanese advert for Switch has provided the first look at the much-discussed version of FIFA 18 for Nintendo's new console

EA recently confirmed that FIFA on Switch will be a full numbered entry in the series, rather than a spin-off, and will be custom-built for the console - as opposed to a "last-gen" version of the game.

A new advert (below) shows around 15 seconds of gameplay, in various Switch configurations:

While it's hard to draw too much from a commercial, the character models and overall presentation look similar to the Xbox One and PS4 versions of FIFA 17 (and presumably the follow-up too), although lighting and close-up detail are perhaps a little flatter.

Watch Dogs 2 Gets a New Ending Via Patch

As part of a weighty new patch, Watch Dogs 2 just got an extended ending - and it may just be hinting at a setting for Watch Dogs 3.

The patch - which comes in at 10GB on console and 14GB on PC - adds new areas, emotes, clothing and the Carlton Dance from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

It's helping lay the groundwork for the game's upcoming season pass content - which, as Ubisoft points out, can be played entirely in co-op by someone who doesn't own the DLC (which is nice of them). But there's one extra addition that may be setting the scene for something beyond the season pass.

The 100: Octavia’s More Dangerous (and Lethal) than Ever

If the first couple of episodes of The 100: Season 4 have made one thing clear, it’s don’t mess with Octavia Blake (Marie Avgeropoulos)

It’s been quite a journey for the character, who’s had one of the most incredible and notable transformations on a show known for big character transformations. In Season 4, Octavia has been more deadly than ever, now functioning as an assassin, while becoming more closed off than ever in the wake of losing her beloved Lincoln in Season 3 and deciding to eliminate his killer, Pike, moments after the two had been fighting together against a common enemy. I recently spoke to Avgeropoulos about Octavia’s current state of mind, her bond with her mentor, Indra, and more on what to expect as Season 4 progresses.

Harrison Ford Involved in Another Airplane Mishap

Harrison Ford was involved in a plane landing incident on Monday in Orange County, California.

The actor's Aviat Husky flew directly over a Boeing 737 that was waiting on the runway at John Wayne Airport, CNN Money reports. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating what happened, and has yet to determine who was piloting the aircraft.

This isn't the first time Ford has been involved in a plane incident. In 2015, the actor suffered a "fair to moderate injury" after piloting a private plane that crash-landed in Venice, California.
