Nintendo Switch: Hands On with the Next Nintendo Console
One look at Nintendo Switch and you could almost trace back the DNA of devices that came before it. This new console from Nintendo has two playful new controllers, called JoyCon, attached on each side that echo features of the intuitive (and super successful) Wii remote. The Switch also has a touchscreen, a major feature of the company’s last two portable devices and its current home console, the unsuccessful Wii U. Even though all of these components harken back to the company’s past, Nintendo Switch feels focused on a fun new future.
Where Wii U was complicated and often cumbersome, the Switch is simple to understand the minute you see it. It’s a portable gaming device that can fit into a dock and outputs to your TV. It’s strong enough to run massive, open-world games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and or bring the vibrant race tracks of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to life on the go (and both look great on the system’s small screen).

Planet Earth II: The Tech that Gave Us ‘Snakes vs. Iguana’
Almost a decade ago, the sprawling docu-series Planet Earth made waves worldwide. Now the sequel series, Planet Earth II, looks to shows us the vast wonders of the world closer than ever before. Already a ratings phenomenon and cultural event in the U.K. (where it's already aired), Planet Earth II will air here in the States on February 18th at 9:00 - simulcast across three of AMC's networks: BBC America, AMC, and SundanceTV.
Presenter and narrator Sir David Attenborough, along with the show's producers, answered questions at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour and went into some detail about how different Planet Earth II is from the original series - thanks to advancements made in camera technology. Advancements that made it possible to get so up close and personal with living, breathing nature. Like the awesome spectacle that is Snakes vs. Iguana! Take a look...
Zelda Runs at “An Increased Resolution” on Nintendo Switch
Update: This story was edited to fix an error in our original reporting. Zelda: Breath of the Wild was not confirmed at 1080p. We apologize for the error.
In an interview with IGN, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will run at an increased resolution and offers faster load times on Nintendo Switch.
“I think I mentioned this during E3, but the gameplay is completely the same experience on Wii U and the Nintendo Switch,” Aonuma told IGN. “The game controls for the two are pretty much identical. However, when you play in TV mode, the resolution of the screen and the sound quality go up.”
We asked Aonuma if the Switch version would gain any other performance improvements on Nintendo’s new console, and he noted the the Switch would have faster loading times because it’s much easier to pull data from a game card than from a disc. This means players won’t have to wait long to play when they start up Breath of the Wild on Switch.

Bryan Cranston Explains Why He’s in Power Rangers
There was surprise by many when Bryan Cranston was announced as the actor playing Zordon in the new Power Rangers movie a few months ago - even as some big Power Rangers fans knew that Cranston’s history with the franchise goes back to the beginning.
I spoke to Cranston at the TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour today, where he was promoting Season 2 of his animated series SuperMansion, and he explained how he came to appear in the new film.
“Haim Saban called,” Cranston explained, naming the producer who co-created the Power Rangers and owns the franchise (having re-acquired the property after Disney owned it for a few years). “I know Haim and 35 years ago I was doing voice overs when I was first starting out and I would do it when they were dubbing into English and they had to change everything. I went in and did a bunch of different voices. I was 23 or 24. I wasn’t doing younger voices obviously. I did a lot of villains and ‘You shall pay for that!’ It was fun. And I was glad to have the job. I was learning a lot.”
SuperMansion: Season 2 Trailer
The trailer for Season 2 of the animated superhero comedy SuperMansion is here, and a new character has entered the scene.
Check out the trailer below, which includes the debut of Yvette Nicole Brown (Community) as the voice of Portia.
The things that Brown says as talk show host and former superhero Portia in Season 2 of SuperMansion might shock people who have followed her career and on screen characters, but they won't necessarily shock anyone who knows her in real life, said the actress. Brown told reporters on a Television Critics Association 2017 winter press tour panel for the newest season of Crackle's series that her squeaky-clean on-screen persona is absolutely intentional.
Nintendo Will Show Super Mario Odyssey at E3
Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Odyssey will appear at E3 2017.
At the Switch reveal event in New York today, IGN asked Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime how they planned the news at last night’s press conference while still holding some announcements for E3. According to Fils-Aime, Nintendo considered letting attendees at today’s event try out Super Mario Odyssey, but ultimately decided to wait until June.
“The only decision that was made from an E3 consideration standpoint was ‘do we show Super Mario Odyssey from a hands-on perspective today versus E3?’ And we’re going to show it at E3,” Fils-Aime told IGN. “But at least from a Nintendo perspective, there’s no other consideration that is driven by E3.”
Nintendo Talks Voice Chat, Online Approach for Switch
Nintendo Switch will mark a fresh start for Nintendo's approach to online, and as such, the console won't support Miiverse or StreetPass.
"We need to offer, both to consumers well as to developers, a more robust set of opportunities from an online perspective and that's what we're looking to do," Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told IGN.
When asked why voice chat for Nintendo Switch will be tied to a mobile app, Reggie said, "we want to reinforce the capability to take your experience with you on the go.... The ability to do matchmaking, voice chat through your phone, it's a hell of a lot more convenient than having a gamer headset stuck into your backpack trying to do that. That's why we're doing it the way we are. We see the convenience, we see the ease of delivery. We think it's going to lead to a better experience."
Reggie Fils-Aime Hints at a Future for Metroid, Mother 3 on Switch
Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime hinted at the future of two fan favorites on Switch.
Speaking to IGN, Fils-Aime stressed the differences in the two franchises, but said Nintendo is aware of the demand from fans to see the games on Nintendo's newest console.
Calling Metroid one of Nintendo's "crown jewels," Fils-Aime said Nintendo is "committed to that franchise." He stressed Nintendo's primary concern is moving the franchise forward.
As for Mother 3, "that has a different set of complexities." Fils-Aime said even though Satoru Iwata was involved with it, "it really isn't a Nintendo-owned franchise."
Fils-Aime reiterated Nintendo is aware of conversations happening around both the Metroid franchise and Mother 3, and said "let's see where we are a year from now."
