December 2016’s Top Selling Console Was PlayStation 4

According to analysts at the NPD Group, Sony's PlayStation 4 was again took the top-selling console spot for the month.

That's the second month in a row PS4 was the top-selling console, breaking a four-month streak in which Xbox One topped the charts.

Nintendo's 3DS had a strong showing, helped along by sales of Pokemon Sun and Moon, as well as its evergreen titles like Mario Kart 7. The console saw its seventh month of growth over the same period the previous year.

Netflix Releases Teaser for Next Adam Sandler Movie

Netflix has released the first teaser trailer for Adam Sandler's latest movie for the streaming service, Sandy Wexler.

The teaser provides a brief look at the the film's interesting setting and Adam Sandler's eccentric character, the titular Sandy Wexler, who has quite the interesting accent.

The film follows Wexler, who's a talent manger working on the fringes of show business in Los Angeles in the 1990s. He represents a group of whimsical B-list clients, and his reputation is put on the line when he falls in love with one of his newest clients, talented singer Courtney Clarke (Jennifer Hudson), who Wexler discovers in an amusement park.

Along with Sandler and Hudson, the film also stars Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Beastmaster), Nick Swardson (The Do-Over), Kevin James (True Memoirs of An International Assassin), and Rob Schneider (The Ridiculous 6).

Shazam Split into Two Movies

Just like that, Shazam has switched from a single film to two movies.

Deadline reports that Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam will now get his own standalone film in the DC Universe. This will be in addition to the Shazam movie.

Johnson met with DC last week about Shazam's Black Adam. Coming out of the conference, he reconfirmed he was playing the supervillian and sometimes anti-hero, as well as alluding to a more optimistic and fun tonal shift for the DC cinematic universe.

World of Darkness Game Announced From Focus/Cyanide

White Wolf, publisher of role-playing games and books set in the World of Darkness universes, has announced a video game adaptation of Werewolf: The Apocalypse for PC and consoles.

White Wolf is partnering with publisher Focus Home Interactive (Blood Bowl, Bound by Flame) and developer Cyanide (Styx: Master of Shadows, Blood Bowl, Call of Cthulhu).

Werewolf: The Apocalypse will have players assume the role of a Garou, a vicious Werewolf warrior born to fight a supernatural force called The Wrym that's leading the world into an apocalypse. The Garou are also opposed to urban civilization because of the destruction it brings.

Sneaky Pete Renewed for Season 2

Amazon's latest series, the highly-acclaimed Sneaky Pete, is coming back for a second season.

The show just premiered less than a week ago, and a major reason for the quick second-season renewal is the fact that Sneaky Pete has become Amazon Prime's second most streamed original scripted series on opening day, behind The Man in the High Castle. Sneaky Pete is also a critical darling and currently has a 100 percent Rotten Tomato score. IGN called it "a satisfying, smirky shell game filled with great characters and smart twists."

"Both the critical response and our customers’ engagement with the series are key factors in our enthusiasm to bring our audience a second season of Sneaky Pete," said Joe Lewis, head of comedy and drama at Amazon Studios.

Pokemon Sun and Moon Pass Huge Nintendo Sales Milestone

Pokemon Sun and Moon are the fastest Nintendo games in the company's history to sell more than 4 million copies.

According to a statement from Nintendo, Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon came in number 2 and number 3 on the NPD Groups list of best-selling games for the month of December.

Combined, the two games have sold 4.5 million copies since their release in late November. The last quarter of the year was the "best-selling quarter for software in Nintendo 3DS history," with 7.3 million copies of first-party Nintendo games sold during the three-month period.

Nintendo credited the Pokemon games, along with other new releases like Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS and evergreen titles like Mario Kart 7, for giving the 3DS its seventh month in a row where sales grew over the same period the year earlier.

Injustice 2 Beta Announced

WB Games and NetherRealm Studios have announced a beta for Injustice 2.

Starting today, people can sign up through the Injustice 2 online beta registration. More details about the early trial for the fighting game are expected in the near future.

Injustice 2 will officially launch in May, available in a standard package as well as digital deluxe and ultimate edition options. These special versions of the fighting game include DLC characters, like the Power Girl skin.

Taken TV Show: How Mills Compares to Bond and Bourne

From executive producer Luc Besson -- based on his movie franchise -- NBC's Taken follows the origin story of younger and hungrier former Green Beret Bryan Mills, played by Vikings' Clive Standen. Premiering Monday, February 27th, Taken will see Mills fight to overcome a personal tragedy and exact revenge as he's pulled into a career as a deadly operative on a CIA special ops team.

At the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Standen, along with executive producers Matt Gross (Body of Proof) and Alex Cary (Homeland), appeared on a Q&A panel and spoke about the particular ideas involved in bringing Taken to the small(er) screen. For one, this is an origin story for Mills, played by Liam Neeson in the movies, but it's still set in the present.

Xander Cage is back, and he's heading to Hollywood Boulevard! IGN and Paramount Pictures teamed up to live stream the red carpet premiere of xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and there are plenty of ways to tune in.

Neil Gaiman to Adapt His Novel Good Omens as Miniseries

A limited series based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett's apocalyptic novel Good Omens is headed to Amazon.

The six-part hour-long comedy series, which will debut on Amazon Prime Video in 2018, is being written by Gaiman, who is also on board as showrunner. BBC Studios is co-producing with Narrativia and The Blank Corporation. Following its release on Prime Video, this series will air on the BBC in the UK.

Good Omens novel, written by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett

Good Omens tells an apocalyptic story set in 2018 when the "Final Judgment is set to descend upon humanity," and the prophetic book titled "The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter Witch" has foretold that the world will end next Saturday.
