Battlefield’s New Update Brings Along a Grenade Crossbow
A new update for Battlefield 1 is coming tomorrow, December 13 for some players, and brings with it a range of gameplay tweaks, fixes, and additions.
The big addition is the new map called Giant's Shadow, which is based on the Battle of the Selle. It features a large crashes airship, and takes place along the river banks and open ground surrounding the Cateau-Wassigny railway. It'll be available from tomorrow for Premium Pass owners and people who pre-ordered the game, but everyone else will have to wait until December 20.
A new support class gadget called the grenade crossbow is exactly what it sounds like (brilliant). Plus, there's a new spectator mode where you can join a match as an observer. You can switch between first- and third-person views, or even switch to free cam to get a view from wherever you'd like.
Nintendo Experimented With a Minecraft-Like Game for N64
The creator of the most successful game character of all time says he came close to making something like one of the most successful games of all time.
In an interview with Glixel, Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto explained that he admires Minecraft "from the perspective of the fact that I really feel like that's something we should have made".
The Mario creator said: "We had actually done a lot of experiments that were similar to that back in the N64 days and we had some designs that were very similar."
It sounds as though the idea didn't meet Miyamoto's notoriously high bar for quality, however - which seems to be why he's impressed by Minecraft's success in that department: "It's really impressive to me to see how they've been able to take that idea and turn it into a product."

Report: Sony Considering Merging Film and Gaming Divisions
Sony is reportedly contemplating a shake-up of its US operations and a merger between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Interactive Entertainment, claims The New York Post.
The move, should such a merger proceed, would see Sony Interactive Entertainment boss Andrew House acquire “oversight over but likely not daily control of the studio,” sources have allegedly told The Post.
For its part, Sony has adamantly dismissed the report.
“This is nothing but baseless rumor and speculation,” a Sony spokesperson told The Post. “There are no plans to for
Andrew House to oversee Sony Pictures.”
Nintendo’s First Universal Attraction is Super Nintendo World
The first Nintendo-themed attraction coming to Universal Studios theme parks will be called Super Nintendo World.
Nintendo's official Twitter account confirmed the name of the attraction coming to the Universal Studios Japan park, accompanied by the conceptual art below.
As explained in a subsequent press release, the attraction will be coming to the Japan park first in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, though Nintendo-themed areas are also coming to the Orlando and Hollywood Universal parks.
Doom, Wolfenstein Composer on Making Music That Matters
Not everyone sticks around to watch closing credits. If they did, cinemas wouldn’t have to turn the lights on when the movie is done – but they do, because they know people are going to leave regardless and it’s better for them if their patrons don’t fall down the stairs in the dark in the process.
When it comes to games, not everyone even gets to the credits. Statistically speaking, most people don’t actually even finish games.
I’m a total sucker for memorable closing credit sequences but most of them are from films. The key ingredient is always the song, whether it’s elegantly mixed into the movie’s final moments or only begins belting out when the credits start to roll. Think Fight Club, or The Matrix. Think Goodfellas, or The Bourne Ultimatum. Honestly there are probably too many to list. I think a good piece of closing credits music is more important than a lot of folk realise. It's like the last bite of a meal.
New Power Rangers Movie Poster Features Zords
Lionsgate has dropped a new poster for its upcoming Power Rangers movie, and it gives us our very first glimpse - and we mean glimpse - at the Zords in the new film.
So far we've seen the Power Rangers costumes and their Power Coins, but their Zords have only been teased. Obscured by the mist, that's still kind of the case here, but at least we get a full frontal that really shows off the size of the Power Rangers' massive robotic companions.
