Oculus Chief Engineer: VR’s Future ‘Not Necessarily Gaming’
Oculus co-founder and chief engineer Jack McCauley shared his thoughts on the future of virtual reality, saying he doesn't believe it will "necessarily" be tied to video games.
"As a gaming platform, I'm not sure that with Unity and Unreal
we really understand how to write an application for
that doesn't have secondary effects like nausea," McCauley explained on the latest episode of our monthly interview show IGN Unfiltered.
"And how do you write gaming content when you're so used to writing first-person shooters or something like that," he continued, adding that playing a first-person shooter in virtual reality is "not that great of an experience and kind of makes you a little queasy."

Full Details on No Man’s Sky Foundation Update
Developer Hello Games has release full patch notes for its surprise update to No Man's Sky.
The No Man's Sky update contains the usual rebalancing and bug-fixes you expect to find in an iterative update, but the 1.1 update adds new features to the game as a whole, including base building. Hello Games calls it the Foundation Update, calling it the "foundation for things to come," and promising continued, free updates built on the 1.1 patch.
Also notable in the new update is the addition of three new game modes: normal, creative, and survival. "Normal" is the vanilla game, while "Creative" removes limitations and allows for free exploration. The game's new "Survival" mode is, according to Hello Games, a "much more challenging endurance experience."
Moana Makes Big Splash in Box Office Debut
Disney's new animated film Moana dominated the domestic box office, claiming the top spot with $55.5 million over the three-day Thanksgiving weekend.
The film's domestic total currently stands at a whopping $81.1 million, following its mid-week debut five days ago. As noted by Variety, Moana is one of many massive hits released by Disney in 2016, with Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange, Finding Dory and The Jungle Book all currently claiming a spot amongst this year's 10 top-grossing films.
Unfortunately for Paramount, director Robert Zebecks' film Allied had a far less successful debut. The romantic thriller starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard placed fourth with $13 million over the three-day weekend, and earned just $18 million during its first five days in theaters, falling far short of its $85 million production budget.
