Legend of Korra Graphic Novel Gets a Release Date

The first installment of The Legend of Korra’s three-part graphic novel series from Dark Horse will be released in June, 2017.

Entertainment Weekly reports that the first part will be called Turf Wars, with series co-creator Michael DiMartino and artist Irene Koh working on the graphic novel. The show’s other co-creator, Bryan Konietzko, is only providing feedback.

Turf Wars will pick up right where the show left off, with Korra and Asami trying to save Republic City from the chaos caused by the spirit portal and the triads, and a greedy developer who wants to turn the city into an amusement park.

The Flash: How Flashpoint Compares to the Comics

The Flash started off its third season on an ambitious note. The premiere episode "Flashpoint" adapted the comic book mini-series of the same name. But while the two versions of Flashpoint share certain basic similarities, this episode was, at best, a very loose adaptation of the source material.

We explored whether that's a good or bad thing in our "Flashpoint" review, but we thought it would be a good idea to dig a little deeper into Flashpoint and explore just how the two versions compare.

Full spoilers for "The Flash" continue below.

The Flashpoint comic was written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Andy Kubert, and it was published as DC's flagship comic during the summer of 2011. The comic presented a dark, almost post-apocalyptic vision of the DC Universe wherein many familiar heroes were MIA and the Amazons and Atlanteans were locked in a perpetual, destructive war.

What Comes After Marvel’s Luke Cage

Marvel's Luke Cage might have just come out on Friday, but if you raced to the end of its 13 episodes like we did, you're likely already ready for more.

Fortunately, Marvel and Netflix have plenty on the horizon, and with Iron Fist's newly announced premiere date, the wait is going to be bearable. Here's a breakdown of what's coming up for Netflix's offerings in the MCU.

Marvel's Iron Fist will serve as an origin story for Danny Rand (Finn Jones), the fourth and final of Marvel's street-level heroes to be introduced before The Defenders. His standalone series will be his debut into the MCU, though there were some Easter eggs layered into Luke Cage that hint at how the shows will all connect together.

Becoming Batman: Behind the Scenes of Arkham VR

As far as launch games for new VR hardware goes, Sony has scored a home run with Batman Arkham VR for its new headset. It is, as reported, as close to putting on Batman’s cowl as it gets without actually being  Batman; a disorientating, discombobulating, incredibly immersive experience.

For developer Rocksteady, showing it off is a pleasure. Having called an end to the studio’s Batman long-service after last year’s Arkham Knight, Batman Arkham VR was a spontaneous project that was built under very little pressure. “We started to just toy around with it, and see what VR was all about,” says producer Dax Ginn. “Our initial objective wasn't to do anything, but as gamers, we were sort of interested.”

Westworld Will Keep Subverting Expectations

Warning: Full spoilers for the Westworld series premiere below.

The first episode of Westworld definitely plays with audience expectations in its first few minutes, as we meet Teddy (James Marsden), a return visitor to town, who clearly has a thing for Evan Rachel Wood’s android, Dolores. But as it turns out, Teddy isn’t the human he appears to be and is in fact an android himself – one who is powerless to stop the sadistic Westworld “guest” known only as the Man in Black (Ed Harris) from murdering him and raping Dolores, in what it turns out is a tragic loop Teddy and Dolores are trapped in without their knowledge.

I spoke to Marsden about his role in Westworld and how Teddy and Dolores are unable to ever be together simply because that’s not what their programing allows. We also spoke about the scale of the show, working with executive producers J.J. Abrams, Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy and more.

Adjusted for inflation, however, most of those systems, including the NES, Sega Master System, and Nintendo 64, would almost all retail today for between $300 and $500. (A notable exception is the Atari 2600 — released in the 70's, the console would now command around a $840 price point when adjusted for inflation.) [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/09/17/ps5-price-release-date-launch-games-and-more-beyond-episode-666"] Those numbers line up largely within the price range of the last few systems that have been released — the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's original price points would come to around $450 and $550, respectively, today, while the Switch would now cost over $300 when adjusted for inflation. Noting groups of consoles released roughly within two to three years of each other, the price differences rarely have varied outside of $100 to $200. (Notable exceptions include systems like the 3DO and Neo-Geo, which, adjusted for inflation, would cost well over $1,000.)
