Marvel’s Miss America Goes Solo in 2017
Fans of teen superhero Miss America Chavez have plenty of cause for excitement, as Marvel revealed that she'll be starring in a new solo series in 2017.
The announcement came during Marvel's "Retailers Only" presentation at NYCC today. The new series will simply be titled "America." No creative team was announced, though former Young Avengers artist Jame McKelvie will be providing covers for the series.
We React to Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
As a part of New York Comic Con, BBC America took over The Theater at Madison Square Garden this morning for panels including Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency; Doctor Who; and Who spinoff series, Class (check out our separate coverage of those panels). Dirk Gently started the day off with, before the panel guests appeared, a screening of the premiere episode.
Fans of the novels from which the show is adapted will immediately recognize that Gently has more of a relationship to the two Who series than merely airing on the same network. Douglas Adams (of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy fame) is the author of both Gently books and, at one point, worked on Doctor Who.
Writer and executive producer of Dirk Gently, Max Landis, may be in the know now about that Adams connection, but early on during the panel discussion said that when he first read The Long, Dark, Tea-Time of the Soul (the second Gently novel), he had no idea. As Landis explained it, he was 12 years old at summer camp, told to find something to read, and found the only book there that "sounded like it was science fiction" – Tea-Time of the Soul.
Kate Beckinsale Goes Dark for Underworld: Blood Wars
New York Comic-Con descended to the Underworld today with Underworld: Blood Wars, as Kate Beckinsale took the stage at the Theater at Madison Square Garden to talk up the latest chapter in the Screen Gems film and show off the new trailer.
Here’s the official logline for the movie: “The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, Underworld: Blood Wars follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.” And here's the new trailer:
14 Pictures of the Adorable Delsin Rowe Sackboy
Through the years, Little Big Planet's intrepid mascot, Sackboy, has donned countless outfits in honor of other iconic PlayStation characters. This new collectible statue has him heading to Seattle to become none other than Delsin Rowe from Infamous: Second Son.
We found him hanging out on the show floor at New York Comic-Con, so naturally, we couldn't help but snap some photos of him. I mean, can you blame us? Sackboy is one photogenic dude, even when he's pretending to be a surly, elemental power-wielding bad-ass. Here's a slideshow of the images we got, plus a few more from the official Triforce website, where you can pre-order the statue right now.
Capaldi Introduces Doctor Who’s New Companion
New York Comic Con has expanded to a new venue this year, The Theater at Madison Square Garden, and what more appropriately sci-fi way to open the venue as a NYCC destination than with a series of panels including long-running British series Doctor Who as well as the new Doctor Who spinoff, Class. Both those shows air here in the States on BBC America and consequently were teamed with the networks new show, Dirk Gentlys Holistic Detective Agency (which we will cover in a separate piece).
It was Class that started off the Whovian portion of the panels.
The series focuses on a group of students at Coal Hill Academy (yes, that Coal Hill), and the four actors—Greg Austin (Charlie), Vivian Oparah (Tanya), Sophie Hopkins (April), and Fady Elsayed (Ram)—were all present for the panel. As they are students, the actors are a relatively young group (who apparently played Pokémon Go while on set), and in fact, it was noted that this is Oparahs first job.
TMNT’s First Look at Super Shredder and Mark Hamill’s Kavaxas
Straight from New York Comic Con come fresh first looks at TWO new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters from the acclaimed Nickelodeon animated series.
Fans in attendance at the TMNT panel today caught glimpses of both Super Shredder and new character Kavaxas (voiced by Mark Hamill), a hotheaded dragon man with mystical powers who partners with some of the Turtles’ worst foes to bring chaos to New York City.
IGN's got your exclusive look at the two video clips shown during the Q&A session - the first featuring Karai being introduced to a brand new Shredder. Healed by mutagen, Shredder has now mutated into a hulking, mutagen-fueled, bladed monster called the Super Shredder! Check it out...
6 Things Wolverine 3 Should Pull From ‘Old Man Logan’
If you haven't heard, Wolverine is starring in another solo movie in March 2017. Simply titled Logan, this new movie will see Hugh Jackman unleash his claws for the final time. And between the title and the fact that the movie features an older, grizzled version of the popular X-Man, all signs point to Logan adapting Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's popular comic book storyline Old Man Logan. This wouldn't be the first time the X-Men films draw heavily from the comic book source material.
But what makes Old Man Logan so special, and how might it influence the third Wolverine movie? Here are six story elements we hope to see adapted in Logan.
In recent years, studios have begun showing us just how much potential there is with the superhero genre. There have been superhero political thrillers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), superhero sci-fi adventures (Guardians of the Galaxy) and raunchy superhero comedies (Deadpool). With Logan, Fox now has the chance to deliver the first superhero Western. Well, the first one worth watching, anyway (sorry, Jonah Hex). Old Man Logan is very much a Western, with sweeping shots of the sun-baked vistas and Wolverine being cut from the same cloth as John Wayne or Clint Eastwood's cowboy heroes. The comic is actually very similar to Eastwood's 1992 classic Unforgiven, right down to the fact that the story revolves around Logan reluctantly carrying out a mission and leaving his family to tend to the farm in his absence.
Milla Jovovich Promises an End to Alice’s Story in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hit New York Comic-Con today, with Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Eoin Macken, William Levy, and director Paul W.S. Anderson avoiding the T-Virus to talk about what they say will be the last entry in the series.
In The Final Chapter, Alice returns to where it all began, heading back to The Hive in Raccoon City to battle the Umbrella Corporation for one last conflict. A new trailer for the film was shown during the panel today, which just went online. Watch it here:
After the trailer, Anderson said the plan with this film is to tie up all the loose ends of the movie franchise. “It’s a return to the very beginning of the franchise, Raccoon City, or what’s left of it after we dropped a bomb on it in the second film,” he said. “It’s a return to The Hive for Alice, where it all started, and this is where we find out the truth about
