World of Final Fantasy Demo Coming Next Week

Square Enix has announced fans will be able to access a playable demo for World of Final Fantasy on October 17.

World of Final Fantasy is a brand new cute departure from the main series, but it returns to a more traditional gameplay style, with turn-based battles using the Active Time Battle system. You also have the ability to "imprism" monsters, trapping them and having them fight on your side.

In the demo you'll be able to try out Lann and Reynn in their Lilikin and Jiant forms. The duo can switch between the small "chibi-like" Lilikin and their normal forms, making them fairly unusual in this world.

Plus you'll be meeting various monsters called Mirages and a number of recognizable characters from the series like Cloud, Lightning, and Squall. If you complete the demo, you'll unlock Magitek Armor P in the Coliseum to battle and capture in the full version of the game.

Battlefield 1 Rent-a-Server Not Available at Launch

Battlefield 1’s rent-a-server won’t be available at launch, but will come “close after launch,” says EA.

According to a Battlefield blog post, the reason for the slight delay is down to EA providing the servers instead of third-parties. With EA at the reigns, this allows the company to “secure the quality of the actual hardware” and “same uniform experience.” It also means should issues arise, players can contact EA Support directly for help.

Battlefield’s rent-a-server program lets players customise what they play, including map rotations, game modes, as well as gameplay tweaks. That said, some game modes will be restricted at launch and released “based on feedback and other circumstances.”

Battlefield 1 EA Access and Single Player Impressions

EA Access and Origin subscribers can play a sizeable chunk of Battlefield 1 on October 13th, including five maps, four modes and two single player war stories. If you’re unsure about whether to subscribe, here are our impressions of Battlefield 1’s “Play First” trial. In short, the weapons and vehicles of the era are well suited to bring out the best parts of Battlefield while leaving stale gameplay elements on a welcome hiatus.

The roles of each class in the Battlefield series have been swapped around more times than I care to remember, and this is once again the case in Battlefield 1. The assault class is now relegated to SMGs and shotguns, but also carries the brunt of anti-vehicle weaponry. Beyond that the medic, support, and scout are exactly what you’d expect. The ability to grab ammo or first aid from a friendly soldier hasn’t carried over from Battlefield: Hardline, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Leaving the distribution duty to the player encourages team play and strengthens class identity. That said, being ignored by a friendly medic is still frustrating. When available, you can discard your class’ kit for the overpowered weaponry and impressive armor of an “elite class,” both health and ammo can still be replenished so the resulting mayhem feels more tactical and less fleeting than a simple power up.

Hitman Season Finale Release Date Announced

The season final of Hitman will release on October 31, and take place in Hokkaido, Japan.

The mission is called Situs Inversus, and will take place in the grounds of the GAMA private hospital and resort. Io says "This secluded facility is a fusion of Japanese beauty and cutting-edge technology, featuring its own Zen gardens, organic sushi restaurant and traditional Japanese hot spring."

Situs Inversus means "inverted placing" in Latin, however perhaps more importantly it's the name of a medical condition where the internal organs are on the opposite side to normal.

There will be two targets to assassinate in the finale, but who exactly they are hasn't been revealed yet.

Overwatch Officially Passes 20 Million Registered Players

Activision Blizzard announced today that Overwatch has passed 20 million global players. This news comes just under five months after the game's release, and a little over two months after the developer announced the game supassed 15 million total players.

It's worth noting this means there are 20 million registered Overwatch accounts, not necessarily that the game has sold 20 million copies. While Blizzard hasn't released sales numbers for Overwatch, it was June's highest selling game, according to the NPD's numbers.

The Flash’s Flashpoint Causes Big Arrow Change

Flashpoint is having ripple effects across all of the DC shows, and in Tuesday's episode of The Flash it was revealed how Barry Allen had a significant effect on Arrow in a way that tied back to a Season 1 plot point on Legends of Tomorrow.

Full spoilers for "Paradox" continue below.

In the second episode of the season, Barry Allen catches up with Arrow's Felicity Smoak to talk through the ripple effects of Flashpoint. He realizes that the deviations between the original timeline and the Flashpoint timeline -- which have resulted in a third, slightly altered timeline -- have affected those closest to him.

Jurassic World 2 Will be a ‘Parable’ for Treatment of Animals

The sequel to Jurassic World will be quite different than its predecessor, according to producer Colin Trevorrow, who notes the followup will explore "more complex" themes surrounding the treatment of animals.

"The dinosaurs will be a parable of the treatment animals receive today," Trevorrow said at the Sitges Film Festival, according to El Mundo (via TIME). He highlighted specific topics surrounding animals that the film will address, including "abuse, medical experimentation, pets, having wild animals in zoos like prisons, the use the military has made of them, animals as weapons."
