Director Jon Watts confirmed the names of several of the film's high school characters to Entertainment Weekly. He only provided the first names of the characters, however, and while no connections to pre-existing characters are confirmed, figures from Spider-Man's comic adventures do share similar or the same first names with the film's players.

The Best of Comic-Con 2016

San Diego Comic-Con 2016 is over, and we're still recovering from the four-day long marathon of getting new trailers, reveals and details about our favorite TV shows, films, comics and games. Now that Comic-Con is done, it's time to take a look back at what made the biggest impression at this year's annual geek celebration.

One of the biggest announcements of Comic-Con was the confirmation that Brie Larson will in fact be playing Carol Danvers in Marvel's upcoming Captain Marvel film. The actress was already at SDCC to promote her role in Kong: Skull Island, but she crashed the end of Marvel's Hall H panel on Saturday to announce her part in the upcoming project.

Fans got their first look at Sony and Marvel's upcoming standalone Spider-Man film during Marvel's Hall H panel. Viewers already got a look at Peter Parker as a superhero in Captain America: Civil War, so it's fitting that the footage shown focused on him as a teenager. Director Jon Watts emphasized that Spider-Man: Homecoming will be a high school film, and we got Freaks & Geeks and John Hughes vibes from the footage we saw.

We've known for some time there's a new Professor Layton game in the works from Level-5, and a new filing with the European Union Intellectual Property Office is pointing to a new direction for the series.

In late June, a new Layton game was teased by Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino. Hino hinted the main character wouldn't be Professor Layton this time, nor would it be Layton's son Alfendi. A photo from Famitsu showed sketches of a female character, but no more hints were given at the time.

Is this Lady Layton? Is this Lady Layton?

Barbara Gordon is striking out on her own for DC Rebirth. This new series is taking her outside the familiar confines of Burnside on on a global journey to hone her skills and become a better Batgirl. That sounds like a promising new status quo, but we're really excited about the new creative team. Cartoonist/graphic novel artist Hope Larson is making her DC debut on this book, and she's joined by none other than American Vampire co-creator Rafael Albuquerque. Based on the cover alone, expect this to be one of the most gorgeous books in the DC Rebirth lineup.
