Fourth Film in Star Trek Reboot Series Announced

Days before Star Trek Beyond hits theaters, Paramount Pictures has announced a sequel that will see the return of a character who first appeared in the 2009 reboot.

Chris Hemsworth, who played the father to Chris Pine's James T. Kirk in the first Trek film to kick off the Kelvin timeline, will return as George Kirk in the fourth in the recent line of Star Trek films. No director has been announced yet, but J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are on board to write the script.

The pair were originally brought on with Roberto Orci to pen the original script for the third Star Trek film before Orci left the project, after which Doug Jung and Star Trek star Simon Pegg came on to co-write the script that would become Star Trek Beyond. Bad Robot's Lindsey Weber and J.J. Abrams, who helmed 2009's Star Trek and the followup Star Trek Into Darkness, will produce the film.

39 Big Games Still Coming Out in 2016

We're a little more than halfway through the year, but there are still a ton of incredible games on the way. From much-anticipated sequels to exciting new adventures, here are 39 big games still coming out in 2016.

Starbound - July 22

On the surface, Starbound seems like Terraria in space, but this side-scrolling platformer is more adventure game than action sandbox. Starbound’s procedurally generated universe is just the theater for a rich, story-driven adventure that also features plenty of combatcraftingbase-building, resource management, and more. After a while in Early Access, Starbound is finally landing on PC, Mac, and Linux very soon.

Original Star Wars Rebels Plan Had Vader Killing Maul

The Star Wars Rebels: Season 2 finale brought a big player back into the universe, as Darth Maul -- simply Maul now -- made his return.

However, as Rebels co-creator/executive producer Dave Filoni revealed to me at Star Wars Celebration, Maul’s return was nearly a brief one, as the character was originally going to die in that huge finale - coming to his end after facing Darth Vader for the first time, no less.

Said Filoni, “It’s interesting. This is a little bit inside, but Maul wasn’t meant to survive the Malachor episode. There was a lot of thought given to taking him out there because a lot of the Malachor arc, originally, was more about Vader confronting Maul and it was going to be a story about that. It became clear to me as the emotional story developed and we worked on it more that that was just going to be wrong, that if anything happened to Maul it needed to have its proper time and its proper space. That’s how he kind of got a pass and survived to this season.”

Next Star Wars: The Old Republic Expansion Revealed

The next expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic will be Knights of the Eternal Throne, and it'll be heading your way later this year.

There's not a great deal of information about the expansion yet, other than it will be coming "Fall 2016." On the official website, you can sign up to be the first to learn about any new updates.

This year will mark The Old Republic's fifth anniversary, and Bioware has released an infographic giving us some information on how people have been playing the game.

So far there have been 87 million characters created, and players have spent over 1.5 billion hours in the game. The most recruited companions are Lana Beniko and Vette, and 53 percent of people chose to channel the light side rather than embrace the dark.

Dead Rising Possibly Coming to PlayStation 4

A collection of trophies have appeared online for the original Dead Rising, which point to a possible PlayStation 4 release.

There are a few dozen Dead Rising Trophies listed on the Exophase website under the PS4 listing. There hasn't been any official word on a remaster yet, but we'll be sure to update you once we hear something.

The original Dead Rising came out on Xbox 360 in 2006. It never made it to PlayStation, and nor did the third game in the franchise, but Dead Rising 2 did come to Sony's platform.

At E3 this year, Capcom and Microsoft unveiled Dead Rising 4, which will be a timed-exclusive for Xbox One and PC.

Mankind Divided Fixes A Big Deus Ex Problem

As great as Deus Ex: Human Revolution was, it was far from perfect, and its empty feeling hub areas were among its most obvious flaws. It’s also one of the areas in which its sequel, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided has improved the most. Having played plenty of Deus Ex over the years, I mostly expect the guard-infested infiltration spaces to be impeccably designed, but after playing a substantial chunk of Mankind Divided, the hub areas seem to be catching up nicely.

For one, they’re much more dense – both in terms of the number of NPCs roaming around, and in the number missions, stories, and hidden goodies there are to partake of. Whether it’s a maintenance hallway tucked away in the back of a subway station or a seemingly abandoned second-floor apartment, I could barely make it from point A to B without finding some unsavory business to stick my nose in. This pleased me.
