Brie Larson Confirmed as Captain Marvel
During the Marvel Studios Comic-Con panel tonight, Brie Larson was confirmed as Captain Marvel.
Marvel confirmed the news on Twitter, along with a first look at the film's logo:
Larson’s casting follows rumors from earlier this year that she was in talks for the role.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Gets a Villain
Looks like Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 has a new, retro-ish logo, and it was shown off at the Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
In addition, a fairly solid casting rumor was confirmed as well, with Elizabeth Debicki finally confirmed as Ayesha. Details are still unclear as to how the film will handle the character, who doesn't have any ties to the Guardians in the Marvel comics.
WWE Comics Coming From BOOM! Studios
Today BOOM! Studios gave fans a peak behind the curtain of their upcoming comic book line based on the world of WWE. The action will begin in November when WWE: Then. Now. Forever. hits the stands.
The panelists, which included BOOM! Studios president of publishing & marketing Filip Sablik, managing editor Bryce Carlson, editor Eric Harburn, artist Dan Mora, and writer Eric Powell, all discussed their various entries into the pro wrestling world, with everyone professing their lifelong love of the sport. Harburn drew a parallel between the worlds of comics and pro wrestling, citing the serialized storytelling and larger than life characters.
Attendees were shown various pieces of artwork featuring the likes of The Undertaker, John Cena, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and more. The most popular piece shown was a portrait by Mora of superstar Sasha Banks.
Joss Whedon Down to Direct Black Widow Movie
During an interview with IGN, Joss Whedon said he would be down to direct a Black Widow solo film. He developed and fleshed out the character over the course of two Avengers movies, there's been a huge surge of fans wanting to see her get a solo feature, and he recently said if he ever came back to Marvel that it would be to do something female-driven, so it seems an obvious fit.
“If someone pointed at me and said, ‘Do you want to do a Black Widow movie?’, the answer would be ‘Duh!’” Whedon said (starting at 7:20 below).
The grounded nature of the character (when compared to her superpowered Avengers teammates) is what attracts Whedon to the idea.
“I think that character really is very interesting and very earthbound, so it’s the kind of action that I got to do less of with somebody like Thor or The Vision,” Whedon said. “When you get into your ‘Superman’ territory it’s harder to maintain the gritty action that the Russo brothers do so brilliantly and she’s got that kind of thing and
New Doctor Strange Trailer Revealed
During a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2016 today, Marvel Studios revealed a second trailer for the upcoming film Doctor Strange. The film will be released this fall on November 4.
It was also confirmed that Rachel McAdams will be playing the role of Christine Palmer, one of the three original Night Nurses.
Finally, the official poster showing Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange was released via Twitter.
New Logo for Thor: Ragnarok Revealed
Today at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel debuted the new logo for Thor: Ragnarok.
The studio shared the logo in a post on Twitter:

Marvel's upcoming superhero film boasts and all-star cast, including Chris Hemsworth as the God of Thunder, Mark Ruffalo as the Hulk, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Cate Blanchett as Hela, Jeff Goldblum as the Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Karl Urban who promises a "great arc" for his role as Skurge.
Arrow Season 5 Trailer Debuts, New Villain Revealed
Team Arrow has to rebuild in season 5, and they will do so with a few new team members.
The first trailer for Arrow's fifth season debuted during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel, showcasing the new lineup that will fight alongside Oliver Queen before offering a tease of the season's new villain, Prometheus.
Among the newcomers joining the team are Evelyn Sharp, who appeared in season 4, and DC Comics character Wild Dog, as well as Echo Kellum's Curtis Holt.
Additionally, Prometheus, a name that has been used by several DC Comics characters, is set to be the season's main villain. The Prometheus in the show will not be the same one Grant Morrison created in comic book form.
Black Panther Begins Filming in January, Cast Details Revealed
Marvel Studios' standalone Black Panther will begin filming in January, according to an announcement made at the Marvel Studios panel today at San Diego Comic-Con 2016.
Ryan Penagos, VP of Marvel Digital Media confirmed as much on his Twitter account.
On Twitter, Marvel also revealed a new logo for the film:
Debut Trailer for X-Men TV Show Legion Released
Marvel Television and FX Productions have released the first trailer for Legion.
The trailer for Fargo creator Noah Hawley's new X-Men series made its debut during a San Diego Comic-Con panel with Marvel CCO Joe Quesada.
Legion is set to premiere on FX in early 2017 and tells the story of a diagnosed schizophrenic named David Haller (Dan Stevens) whose psychological manifestations may be more than just figments of his imagination.
In addition to Stevens, Legion stars Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Amber Midthunder, Katie Aselton and Jeremie Harris, as well as Bill Irwin and Aubrey Plaza. For more on Legion, find out what Hawley had to say about bringing the X-Men universe to TV.
First The Flash Season 3 Trailer Debuts
Dr. Alchemy will be one of The Flash's primary villains in season 3, the first trailer for the upcoming season reveals.
The footage, debuted during the show's San Diego Comic-Con panel, shows Barry dealing with the repercussions of his actions in the season 2 finale. Having completely altered the timeline, Barry returns to present day to find a completely different world than the one he left. Cisco is the richest man in America, Barry's parents are still happily married, and Iris has no idea who he is.
The trailer also teases one of the season's big bads, Dr. Alchemy. Another speedster can be glimpsed in the trailer, however, as can Kid Flash.
During IGN's San Diego Comic-Con livestream, The Flash star Grant Gustin revealed that the show's take on the comic book storyline Flashpoint won't likely last as long as many fans are expecting. Additionally, the Legends of Tomorrow panel revealed that villains from The Flash and Arrow will appear in the second season.
