Rust Now Assigns Gender, and Private Part Size

Women have been added to Rust, but you won't be choosing your gender when you create your character.

Instead, you are now procedurally assigned a male or female character based on your SteamID, along with race and... the size of your private parts.

Female character models were announced nearly a year ago. Since then, there have been mixed feelings among the Rust community, but the developers have reached out to say that gender has no affect on gameplay, and nor does the size of your peen or bewbs.

"We understand this is a sore subject for a lot of people," said Garry Newman and Taylor Reynolds on Rust's blog. "We understand that you may now be a gender that you don’t identify with in real-life. We understand this causes you distress and makes you not want to play the game anymore. Technically nothing has changed, since half the population was already living with those feelings."

The Division Bug Means Daily Missions Unavailable Until Next Patch

Ubisoft has announced that a bug affecting The Division's daily missions will not be fixed until the next patch on April 12.

An error occurred while resetting daily hard and challenging missions on Saturday, which means they will be unavailable until Tuesday's patch.

Daily missions are a good way of getting loot upgrades and Phoenix Credits, the end-game currency. "We apologize for the inconvenience," said a Tweet from the game's official account.

The April 12 update promises high-end loot from named NPCs, and will add the game's first incursion, Falcon Lost, which is apparently too hard for The Division's lead designer. If you want to know more, IGN has a guide including everything you need to know about the upcoming Incursions.

Quantum Break is Microsoft’s “Biggest Selling New IP This Generation”

Microsoft Studios has announced that Remedy's Quantum Break has the best opening weekend sales for a new Microsoft IP in the Xbox One's lifespan.

Alongside news that the game had topped the UK all-formats chart this week, a spokesman said: “We are excited to announce that Quantum Break is now the biggest selling, new Microsoft Studios IP this generation.”

That means it has eclipsed the opening week sales of the  likes of Sunset Overdrive, Ryse: Son of Rome and Ori & the Blind Forest. It's worth remembering that Quantum Break is the only one of these games that released with an accompanying PC version, however.

Other upcoming Microsoft Studios new IPs that will be aiming to beat that record include Platinum's Scalebound, Rare's Sea of Thieves and Armature's ReCore.

Gun Maker Responds to Nintendo Zapper Replica Criticism

A Texan gun manufacturer has been criticised for modifying a Glock handgun to look just like a NES zapper.

The NES Zapper is the light gun accessory introduced in the 1980s for the original Nintendo Entertainment System and was popularised with classic NES games like Wild Gunman and Duck Hunt.

Precision Syndicate initially shared pictures of the handgun on Facebook. The post has since been shared almost 150,000 times and stacked up over 8,000 comments, but not all are complimentary about the retro replica.

Closed DriveClub Developer Becomes a New Codemasters Studio

Evolution Studios - the recently closed developer of DriveClub and the Motorstorm franchise - has joined Codemasters, and will stay together as a team.

The Evolution team had already hinted that they were looking to stay together after the closure, and today's news confirms that they will. Fellow UK developer Codemasters has bought the studio, and will keep it as a separate team, working on its own games from the same offices.

Sony still owns Evolution's previous IP, but the Liverpool-based team will work on brand new titles for its racing-oriented new owner.

Fantasy Trumps History in Total War: Warhammer

By design, the Total War series is niche, hardcore and somewhat inaccessible. When you splice a turn-based grand strategy wargame with stunningly rendered real-time battles atop dogged devotion to juggling historical truths with gameplay balancing, it’s understandable that Total War isn’t a game being championed by (or for) casual gamers.

But after a few hours of hands-on time with the Vampire Counts faction, I can honestly say that Total War: Warhammer is a safe place to start if your Total War curiosity has been trumped by intimidation in the past. Even though the depth of the Warhammer lore lends itself to deeper Total War mechanics (as if the series wasn’t already nuanced enough), it’s incredibly straightforward for newcomers to learn the basics, and for returning players to be reminded of what’s familiar, and educated on what’s new.
