First Gameplay of Ex-Halo Devs’ Golem Revealed

Now that you've read all about our experiences with Golem, the story-driven, sword-combat fantasy game from the ex-Halo and ex-Infamous developers at Highwire Games, it's time to show it to you. The below video is the raw gameplay video of the initial sequence we saw and played in Golem: the bedroom scene, where we meet our bedridden heroine and possess the six-inch-tall doll on the floor of her house. Above is ex-Halo designer Jaime Griesemer (aka the man who invented Halo's "30 seconds of fun" gameplay loop) commenting over the footage while I ask him questions about it, which helps add context for what you're seeing. Enjoy!

IGN UK Podcast Live at the Glasgow Film Festival

Last week the IGN team headed north of the border and descended on the Glasgow Film Festival for the second year running.

Before a screening of Man vs. Snake, the podcast discussed and debated video game movies. Why they've worked, why they haven't done so well, and whether the best game movies to date are those which have covered the subject in the form of documentaries, like King of Kong, or lifted and adapted mechanics in a much smarter way, like Edge of Tomorrow.

Watch the whole show in the video up top, or download this if you have a thing that can do that:

Why We Aren’t Getting a Star Fox Arwing Amiibo

Despite building multiple prototypes, Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto told IGN why an Arwing amiibo will not launch alongside Star Fox Zero next month.

“Unfortunately, we won’t be releasing an Arwing amiibo,” Miyamoto said in a translated interview. “We did have a few prototypes. There was an Arwing amiibo that transforms into the Walker, but we weren’t able to turn that into a product that could meet safety guidelines for children.”

Nintendo created an Arwing amiibo prototype that could change in a bipedal Walker. Nintendo created an Arwing amiibo prototype that could change in a bipedal Walker.

Epic Games Boss Attacks Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform

Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney has penned an editorial speaking out against Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP) initiative, calling it “the most aggressive move Microsoft has ever made.”

Writing for The Guardian, Sweeney talks about Microsoft launching Windows features which exist exclusively in the UWP scheme, and says doing so is “effectively telling developers you can use these Windows features only if you submit to the control of our locked-down UWP ecosystem."

“They’re curtailing users’ freedom to install full-featured PC software, and subverting the rights of developers and publishers to maintain a direct relationship with their customers.”

Superman Would Beat Batman in, Like, a Second

One of the most debated comic book superhero match-ups is Batman versus Superman. But it makes no sense why the outcome of this fight is so hotly debated when it is painfully obvious that Superman would utterly destroy Batman in, like, a second.

I know what you’re about to say: "But Batman always has a plan!" And you’re not wrong. While it’s true that he’s the world’s foremost detective/billionaire/fake-playboy/tactician, none of that helps much in a straight-up, one-on-one fight to the death. And of course we’re disregarding morality here for this “what if” scenario.

The two have fought many times in the comics, and Batman actually wins a lot, but there was usually some sort of unfair restriction placed on Superman.

Fear the Walking Dead: Season 2 Poster Reveal

When we left Fear the Walking Dead at the end of Season 1, our main characters had made it out of Los Angeles and to the beachfront, aligned with a mysterious man named Victor Strand (Colman Domingo) inside his stocked self-powered coastal mansion. With a yacht not far off shore.

Now Fear the Walking Dead's new Season 2 poster is showing us that heading out into the ocean, aboard that ship, may not be the best idea. Check it out...

Alan Wake’s Return Trademark Is Not for a Game

It looks like we'll be waiting a bit longer for an Alan Wake sequel.

A trademark was spotted last month for "Alan Wake's Return," however, developer Remedy has clarified that it's not for a new game.

According to Kotaku, the trademark is for an in-game live-action video series starring Sam Lake, Remedy's creative director. "A big part of the trademarking process all in all is the legalities of it," Lake said to Kotaku. "Just making sure everything is covered."

Lake said there is "no real news about anything future Alan Wake-related." However, he didn't shut down the possibility of the franchise continuing, saying "we are exploring possibilities and concepting different things, but lots needs to click into place for anything to happen. We will be the first to talk about it when there is something definite to talk about."
