What to Expect from Miitomo

Miitomo takes a lot of ideas from Tomodachi Life, but is very far from being similar to the 3DS Mii simulation game. Instead, it relies on users answering questions to spur conversations with their friends.

There are three core parts to Miitomo; answering questions and reacting to friends’ answers, customizing your Mii, and decorating and creating images in Miifoto. The life of Miitomo comes through these simple questions.

In the demo, I was asked questions like what was I just doing, and what was my favorite pop culture trend. After answering, I could see who had answered the same questions, which answers I’d already seen, and which I had not. This is the basic flow of Miitomo. Your Mii, or a friend’s Mii, asks you questions that are collected and saved to your profile. You can edit your answers, so you’re not tied to an answer or opinion that could change in the future.

64 Images From Miitomo, Nintendo’s First Smartphone App

Nintendo has finally launched its first smartphone app, called Miitomo, in Japan. Release dates for most other territories haven't been announced just yet, but it is slated to come to the US later this month. While you wait, here's a quick look at 64 images from the app itself.

Miitomo is focused on communication between friends. In it, you answer questions and earn coins to buy outfits from a built-in shop. You can earn in-game currency or spend real money on Miitomo coins to buy outfits from the store. You can also make funny pictures using Miifoto, a portion of the app dedicated to putting your Mii in real world photos.

We'll have more Miitomo coverage on the site later today, but check out the screens for now.

No Compromise on Quality for Dirt Rally on PS4, Xbox One

It’s said that while a circuit driver sees the same corner a 1000 times, a rally driver sees 1000 corners just once. This is why co-drivers are so important in rallying; you can’t attack a stage unless you know what’s around the next bend.

One of the strongest components of Dirt Rally (out now on PC via Steam and coming to consoles on April 5) is its absolutely stunning audio, and a crucial part of that are its best-in-class co-driver calls. The detailed pace notes – or perhaps, more accurately, route notes – may still lack a bit of the nuance and enthusiasm a real-world navigator can dynamically inject, but they certainly feel more authentic than anything else in the genre. Maybe it’s because they were recorded in real-time in a special motion seat at Codemasters, reacting to the various forces as the cars careen through the virtual stages. Or perhaps it’s because Paul Coleman, chief game designer at Codemasters, has experience as an amateur rally co-driver.

Blizzard Details Overwatch’s Expanded Universe

With Overwatch's release date approaching, Blizzard has shared the details of its expanded universe. In March, the developer will release the first of its Overwatch animated shorts, followed shortly by its digital comic shorts and graphic novel.

Blizzard first revealed its plans for a series of animated shorts at last year's Blizzcon. They'll release periodically leading up to Overwatch's release. With them, Blizzard will explore the game's "most iconic heroes," revealing the future those heroes are fighting for.

Blizzard's Overwatch digital comic shorts will also release for free as the game ramps up. McCree, the game's vigilante gunslinger, is the star of the first series of comic shorts, which debuts in April. In the following comic shorts fans will learn about a bunch of other heroes, like the criminal duo of Roadhog and Junkrat, and Reheinhardt, "Overwatch's knight from a bygone era."

Fallout 4 Director: Workshop Popularity Was the ‘Biggest Surprise’

Out of the many changes made in Fallout 4, there's one aspect whose popularity surprised the development team at Bethesda the most.

Speaking with IGN, Fallout 4 director Todd Howard revealed he and the others had not necessarily expected the popularity of customizable workshops and bases.

"I think the Workshop stuff was the biggest surprise for us, in that...how many people gravitated toward it as its own game and are doing all sorts of crazy things with it," Howard said, adding the popularity had encouraged them to target further customization options in future DLC releases alongside traditional quest and challenge updates.

The Gender-Bent Mortal Kombat Cosplay You Never Knew You Wanted

Mortal Kombat XL released at the start of this month, but this awesome cosplay makes us wish it came with a gender-bent Kotal Kahn character skin, too.

Australian cosplayer Yeliz Cosplay told IGN that her costume took around 30 hours of "blood, sweat, and tears" to create. She said, "The biggest challenge overall would have to be the headdress. It was hard to figure out the exact shape of my head, so I used a mannequin's head as a model. It was a lot of cutting and reshaping to get it right."

Her costume is done justice in these awesome photos - click right to see more:

Yeliz said, "I cosplay because it allows me to show my love for video games, especially those that have given me an unforgettable experience. I love cosplaying, it lets me transform into something or someone different."
