BvS’s 3 Biggest WTF Moments Explained
Whether you loved or hated or were “eh” about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, I think we can all agree that the film is chockfull of Easter eggs that set up a larger DC movie universe (officially called the DC Extended Universe). We’ll have a full report on the most noteworthy Easter eggs soon, but for now let’s take a look at some of the crazier and most WTF moments that even diehard comics fans might be trying to figure out.
Obviously, major spoilers follow for Batman v Superman…
When Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne takes a catnap at his computer in the Batcave, he has a couple of intense dreams -- or perhaps visions is a more accurate way to describe them. (This sequence has also been referred to as a “Knightmare,” at least on the toy and merchandising side of BvS.) First up, he finds himself in a hellish, post-apocalyptic landscape where a giant Omega symbol has been burned into the ground. This is the coat-and-goggles version of Batman glimpsed in the trailers for the film. He’s overrun by Nazi-like Stormtroopers (bearing Superman’s “S” symbol on their arms) and what certainly appear to be Parademons -- the flying, alien foot soldiers who serve the cosmic villain from the comics known as Darkseid. Yes, aside from representing Bruce’s fear of Superman taking over the world, this sequence also hints at that character, who is sort of like the Thanos of the DC Universe. Director Zack Snyder certainly seems to be setting up Darkseid, who is one of the New Gods, as the big bad of the upcoming Justice League movies, or the DCEU as a whole.
Netflix’s Voltron Animated Series Gets a Release Date
If you hadn't heard the news, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix are coming out with a new Voltron animated series called Voltron: Legendary Defender, which is officially set to drop on Netflix June 10. Earlier today, executive producers and Avatar/Korra alums Joaquim Dos Santos (executive producer), Lauren Montgomery (executive producer) and Tim Hedrick (writer) gave fans their first taste of the new show, which you can check out below:
The original 1984 series followed five pilots and their giant lion robots, which formed to become the super-robot Voltron. For Legendary Defender, the premise is pretty much the same, but with more serialized and character-driven storylines.
‘Sons of Anarchy’ Creator Announces New Comic
Boom Studios is adding a major title to its comic book lineup with the announcement that they'll be publishing a new series from Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter. Titled Lucas Stand, the book will see Sutter transition from gritty, Shakespearean biker drama to supernatural fantasy.
The series was announced at WonderCon today, with more details revealed by USA Today. Lucas Stand will be co-written by Sutter and Caitlin Kittredge (Coffin Hill), with art by Jesús Hervás (Clive Barker's Hellraiser). The series revolves around the titular anti-hero, a former special-ops soldier who attempts suicide and is instead spared by the angel Gadriel. Gadriel tasks Stand with executing renegade and helping to restore the balance between heaven and hell. For each kill, Stand will remove one sin from his bloodstained past.
Marvel Writers Tease Civil War II’s Impact
Friday at WonderCon 2016, Marvel editor Wil Moss kicked off the Marvel Next Big Thing panel with writers Brian Michael Bendis, Charles Soule, David Walker and James Asmus.
Bendis talked about what sets Invincible Iron Man apart from his Invincible Iron Man series, saying that previous Iron Man writer Kieron Gillen left him with an “amazing egg” where Tony found out that his parents were not his true biological parents, so this second series will explore that and we’ll find out who his real parents are. “They are not who they think you are. They are not Agent Carter and Captain America,” Bendis joked. “We tried, but the math doesn't work.”

DeMatteis and Howard Porter with covers and story by DC Co-Publisher Jim Lee; Future Quest, one big team-up book with everyone from Space Ghost to Johnny Quest, by Jeff Parker and Doc Shaner; The Flintstones, given new designs by Amanda Conner, by writer Mark Russell; and Wacky Race Land, which reimagines Wacky Races in the style of Mad Max, by writer Ken Pontac and artist Leonardo Manco with designs by Mark Sexton, who designed the cars from the Mad Max movie.
iZombie Crew Teases a Huge Finale – and Stripper Liv
Expect some very notable events in the iZombie season finale. As executive producer Rob Thomas put it at a panel for the show at WonderCon today, when they did the Season 1 finale, he assumed, “That’s as big as iZombie’s gonna get.” However, Thomas said, ”This year’s season finale is huge. It dwarfs last year’s finale.”
Thomas promised in the finale, airing back-to-back with the penultimate episode, on April 12th. “Most of this year’s seasons questions are answered and we even tee up what we’ll deal with in Season 3.”
Supergirl Has a Potential Role for Lynda Carter
Supergirl executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti have the perfect role for former Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter: President of the United States.
Following an early screening of CBS' The Flash-Supergirl crossover, Kreisberg and Berlanti revealed that they're been trying to bring her to the show for a while now. "We had the perfect role for Lynda Carter," Berlanti said. "We couldn't work out her schedule. Next year."
"We're going to do it, we'll just do it next year," Kreisberg added. Berlanti followed with the reveal on who she'd play: "All right, she's the female president of the United States."
And she's not the first DC Comics alumni to join the cast of Supergirl. Helen Slater, who played Supergirl in the 1984 film, and Dean Cain, who played Superman in Louis & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman TV show, appear in prominent roles as Kara's Earth parents.
