Gears of War 4 Is Based on Epic Games’ Original Vision

Epic Games, the studio behind Gears of War, very nearly made Gears of War 4.

Game Informer reports that the developer started cooking up the would-be Gears of War 4 while fellow studio People Can Fly worked on Gears of War: Judgment. Apparently, the upcoming Gears of War 4 doesn't completely ignore that game's original vision.

When Microsoft bought the Gears franchise from Epic they passed the series off to The Coalition -- formerly known as Black Tusk Studios.

This is the team now bringing Gears of War 4 to life, using the setting and central protagonist (JD Fenix, son of Gears of War central figure Marcus Fenix) originally envisioned by Epic. Though the new villains -- known as The Swarm -- were "completely changed" during the transition.

Kirby in Robot Armor Is Exactly as Fun as It Sounds

Planet Popstar is under attack from the villainous legions of Haltmann Works Company in Kirby: Robobot Planet, and at WonderCon 2016 Nintendo gave the press a chance to save it. During the convention, IGN got to play the upcoming 3DS Kirby title and try out two demo levels to get a sense of the game.

The first demo level started off simple enough, returning to the classic Kirby feel and echoing the multi-plane mechanics of Kirby: Triple Deluxe. A lot of this normal gameplay will be familiar to longtime Kirby players -- opponents can of course be absorbed or their abilities can be copied, and Kirby needs to navigate both the foreground and the background to defeat enemies, find key items, and progress in the level.

Darth Vader’s solo series has been the best of Marvel’s Star Wars comics -- earning a nomination for IGN’s Best Comic Book Series of 2015 -- and the quality has remained high in the current story arc, The Shu-Torun War. Imagine Darth Vader away from the Empire and the space ships, instead dropped off on the ore-mining planet of Shu-Torun where he is assisting a Queen in a battle to keep power from a greedy council of ore barons. It’s full of tension, insane action scenes (like boarding a hostile lava-submarine), and lots of Game of Thrones-esque drama and deceit.

Rockstar Games Nearly Made GTA: Tokyo

Rockstar nearly made a Grand Theft Auto set in Tokyo, though now it's too busy working on GTA 6.

Techradar reports the developer made the trip to Japan in order to scout it as a potential setting for a new game. This was around the time of GTA 3 and Vice City. Unfortunately, the plan fell through thanks to the structure of Tokyo streets.

The site's source further says that GTA 6 is currently in development. That's no surprise given that Grand Theft Auto 5 was released more than two years ago, and Rockstar was open about it years ago. Though they added that no setting for the game has yet been nailed down.

In an interview on Game Informer's podcast, the veteran VA spoke about how he learned of the studio's decision, as well as how he felt about the decision-makers.

"I've got no particular love for

Kojima," he said of the franchise's creator. "I don't feel any need to go back and work with him again."

On whether or not he'd actually play the game, he said, "That'll be 60 hours of humiliation that I can’t get to. I haven’t played the latest two iterations, because it’s just too painful.”
