Red Ranger Dons the Dragon Shield for MMPR #0 Cover

In all of Power Rangerdom, one of the most iconic moments came when the Green Ranger and Red Ranger decided to set aside their differences and team up to acquire some weapons the team desperately needed to defeat the new Super Putties. Facing down the powerful Titanus guarding the weapons cache, Jason gave Tommy his Power Sword to lay down cover fire and in return he transferred over his Dragon Shield so Jason would be protected as he scaled the hillside. The result was not only a powerful show of teamwork but one of the biggest fan-pleasing moments in the series. It was always cool that the Green Ranger had the golden armor, but seeing it on the Red Ranger? Oh, heck yeah!

BOOM! Studios will be releasing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #0 next Wednesday, January 13, and with it a slew of variant covers, each featuring a different Ranger holding their helmet. We have your first look at the exclusive ComicsPRO variant featuring the Red Ranger wearing the Dragon Shield, illustrated by Goñi Montes.

Force Awakens Tops Avatar, Now Top Grossing Movie

Well, that was fast.

J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become the highest-grossing film ever in North America, overtaking the previous record-holder, James Cameron’s Avatar.

In just 20 days of release, the seventh Star Wars film has hit a domestic total of $758.2 million (as of yesterday). Compare that to Avatar, which topped out at $750 million after a seven-month run, which began back in December of 2009. That film earned an additional $10 million or so when it was rereleased in theaters, bringing its North American total to $760.5 million. The Force Awakens, which made $8 million yesterday alone, is blowing past Avatar today.

That said, the adventures of Rey, Finn and Kylo Ren are far from doing the same kind of international business that Jake Sully, Neytiri and Colonel Quaritch (uh, remember them?) did for Cameron. While Avatar made $2.78 billion worldwide, Episode VII is at $1.56 billion as of Tuesday. (The film has yet to open in China.)
