Paranormal Activity/Insidious Producer’s New… Game Show?
This Wednesday sees the debut of Hellevator, as the producer of Paranormal Activity and The Purge and the directors of See No Evil 2 have teamed up for… a game show? Okay, this may not be exactly what you’d imagine you’d get, given all the people involved, but just because it’s not a feature film doesn’t mean it’s not intended to be scary and creepy, especially for the people on the show.
There have been many game shows since television began, but it’s safe to say that Hellevator doesn’t feel like the vast majority of them. Airing on GSN, the show involves a group of contestants riding the object of the title into the depths of an abandoned warehouse, where one by one, they have to get out on different floors to conquer some notably unsettling obstacles in order to gain money for their team… or be eliminated from the game (or “killed”, in horror movie vernacular) if they don’t make it back in time, as the Hellevator moves on without them.
PS4 Gets a Price Drop in Australia
The 500GB PlayStation 4 has dropped from $549.95AUD to $475AUD in Australia.
“We are delighted to deliver the PS4 system at its best-ever value just in time for the holiday season, making it more accessible to a broader audience in Europe,” said SCEE president and CEO Jim Ryan in a press release.
“With this year’s biggest blockbusters and next year’s best exclusives such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End set to thrill players, there has never been a better time to join the PS4 community. Also, watch out for an amazing range of Ultimate Player Edition Bundles including the 1TB PS4 and some of the biggest games of the year, offering even greater value.”
As Kotaku noted, this price drop was hinted at earlier on in the week when Big W and Target advertised a couple of PS4 bundles at intriguingly low prices.
Locke & Key Audio Book Works as a Companion to the Comic
Locke and Key by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez is, hands down, one of the best comic books ever made. It’s a modern masterpiece with sinister characters, gorgeous visuals, and a deep mythology surrounding an old house and the magical keys the Locke family kids find there. Attempts to adapt it to a movie or a television show have thus far come up short, but the audio book version has just released from Audible. While the final product has incredible presentation, it’s not something we would recommend you try out if you’ve never read Locke and Key before.
What if the Nazis Had Won WWII?
What if the Nazis had won World War II? That’s the question the upcoming Amazon series The Man in the High Castle seeks to answer… and one we will be exploring this week on IGN when we’re joined by the cast and executive producer for a discussion about the new show and a livestream of the first episode.
The Man in the High Castle’s first season kicks off next month on Amazon, based on the novel by sci-fi author Philip K. Dick (Dick’s work, of course, inspired such films as Blade Runner, Total Recall, Minority Report, and so much more). The alt-history Man in the High Castle depicts a world where the Axis powers won World War II, and the United States has been cut up into three separate parts by the victors. Crazy!
Oscars: Chris Rock Reportedly in Talks to Host
The 88th Academy Awards may have found its host in Chris Rock, as negations to bring him on board are reportedly underway.
According to Variety, Rock, who previously hosted the Oscars back in 2005, is "in serious talks" to host this year's show. The outlet also notes that a formal announcement from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences is expected to be made very soon.
Earlier this year, Oscar producer David Hill confirmed next year's awards show will have two hosts, so if Rock is indeed selected, he will presumably be sharing the stage with someone else.

Destiny’s Story Underwent a Massive Overhaul in 2013
Destiny's story originally revolved around players and their hunt for Rasputin, a Warmind now found in the Cosmodrome. According to a report by Kotaku, that story was scrapped in 2013 and completely retooled using assets already in place in the game.
"Bungie ditched everything" that had been written by former cinematic director Joe Staten and his team, according to the report. That meant everything needed to be reworked, as Bungie "scrapped plot threads, overhauled characters, and rewrote most of the dialogue" for the game.
Radcliffe’s Least Favorite Performance as Harry Potter Is…
Of all the movies set in J.K. Rowling's magical world, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is the film in which Potter star Daniel Radcliffe is the least pleased with his performance.
“In every movie up to the sixth one, you can see a big step forward in my acting," Radcliffe said in a recent interview with Playboy (via Entertainment Weekly). "And then it stopped, or went backward maybe, in the sixth film. I really enjoyed my performance in the fifth — part of it was how much I worked with people like Gary Oldman and David Thewlis.
