Destiny’s “Kingsfall” Raid to Be Biggest Ever
Today on IGN Live you can catch our interview with Bungie's community lead, DeeJ. A number of big things were revealed and clarified. Most interesting is Destiny's new and upcoming raid King's Fall.
DeeJ detailed, “The new destination in The Taken King is the Dreadnaught. This is the hive ship. It is Oryx the Taken King’s capital ship. You can patrol it, it’s home to its own story missions, its own strikes... It’s home to King's Fall, which is the biggest raid we’ve ever created.”
“It’s got its own bounties, it’s got new activities," he said revealing it may have its own new alternative to House of Wolves' Prison of Elders arena mode. He revealed a new mode called Court of Oryx, which by our estimation sounds similar in thinking.
Destiny Will be Down for Scheduled Maintenance Today
Destiny servers will be down for several hours today for scheduled maintenance.
Bungie has confimed the downtime - commencing at 8.00am PDT/3.00pm UTC - is expected to last until 12pm PDT/7.00pm UTC, and may also affect the companion app and the Bungie.net website.
Players that log-in before the downtime begins will be reminded via an in-game notice, and guardians attempting to log-in during the maintenance period will not be able to play.
Bungie is making several key changes to the shooter - which now has over 20 million players - including removing Destiny's leveling system and replacing Peter Dinklage's Ghost's lines with Nolan North.
More New Forza Motorsport 6 Cars and Tracks Confirmed
Turn 10 has revealed another horde of new cars, as well as some new tracks for Forza Motorsport 6.
In the spirit of Gamescom the bulk of the vehicles confirmed this week are cars from Germany and elsewhere in Europe, including the classic 1975 #25 BMW Motorsport 3.0 CSL and the 2014 #55 BMW Team RLL Z4 GTE.
Turn 10 has also confirmed the final four unannounced tracks for Forza Motorsport 6; rebuilt versions of Hockenheimring and Sonoma Raceway (formerly known as Infineon Raceway) are returning to the series for the first time since Forza Motorsport 4, and Italy's Monza and Austin, TX track Circuit of the Americas (or COTA) are making their debut.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate’s Evie Brings Subtlety to the Slaughter
I stepped off a boat on the Thames and stared at the Tower of London looming in the darkness before me. It was the first time I’d gone hands on with Evie, the more strategically minded of the two playable siblings in Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. While her brother Jacob is a more confrontation-prone ‘act first, think later’ kind of character as revealed by his trigger-happy antics at this year’s E3, Evie is more reliant on subtlety and her character skill tree reflects her penchant for a more silent style of violence. Thus I was encouraged by the development team member assisting me to use her chameleon skill to effectively hide in plain sight rather than take patrolling Beefeater guards head on, as I attempted to infiltrate the tower and take out British Templar Lucy Thorne.
Samsung ‘Fast Tracks’ Android Updates to Fix OS Vulnerabilities
Samsung announced today that it's implementing a new update process to better protect its Galaxy devices from security flaws.
The move comes after the discovery of the Android Stagefright security flaw that was said to affect nearly 950 million devices. The vulnerability allowed a hacker to gain access to a person's phone using a simple MMS message, and required no actions to be taken on the device itself.
In a blog post, the company stated it was "acknowledging the importance of time sensitivity in addressing major vulnerabilities," but didn't specify if Stagefright is what prompted the response.
Hearthstone: Jousting Coming, Plus Changes to Ranked Play
Hearthstone's upcoming expansion, The Grand Tournament, will add 132 new cards to the game, and introduce a number of new mechanics.
The reveal event two weeks ago focused on "Inspire" - a new key word that is activated when players use their hero power, but today at Gamescom, Executive Producer Hamilton Chu and Senior Game Designer Mike Donais revealed that the expansion will also introduce jousting.
This mechanic sees two cards randomly drawn - and shown - from each player's deck, with the higher mana cost card winning the duel.
Jousting seems designed specifically to slow the game down as a whole, and will help ensure that the Inspire mechanic is more viable. At the moment Hearthstone is quite fast and aggressive, and many players would like to see the super aggressive decks lose potency to make room for slower, more control-oriented play. A number of new cards were revealed that show off the possibilities of jousting - you can see all the new cards in the slideshow at the bottom of the page.
The International 5 Will Have a New Champion
Following the elimination of Na'vi and Newbee, Invictus Gaming has been eliminated from The International -- meaning a new team will emerge victorious when the $18 million tournament ends on Saturday, August 8.
IG lost the third game in a best of three against Team Secret in the Lower Bracket on Day 3 of The International's Main Event.
Na'vi won the first International, and Invictus Gaming followed the year after. You can see Na'vi's journey in Valve's documentary film, Free to Play. Alliance, who won The International 3, did not qualify for TI5 this year. Newbee, which won TI4 in 2014, was the first team eliminated from TI5's Main Event.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5 Has a New Art Style
Only two months away from launch, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 has a brand new art style.
"There's been a marked upgrade in the graphics," Activision said, "which showcase playable skaters including Hawk, son Riley, Lizzie Armanto, Nyjah Huston, and Aaron 'Jaws' Homoki."
See the new look for yourself in the gallery below.
The game will be released on September 29. THPS 5 will have 20-person multiplayer, but remember that no multiplayer will be available on the last-gen console versions.
