Why the Marvel Movie Guys Are Annoyed With Joss Whedon
Joss Whedon has been talking about the confusion he caused by killing off Agent Coulson in The Avengers movie, bringing him back to life in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV show, but then keeping him dead for Avengers: Age of Ultron.
We caught up with the writer-director to discuss the new film, and asked if Phil Coulson is indeed still deceased as far as the movies are concerned.
“Yeah he’s dead. The entire television series is just a fever dream. It’s a Jacob’s Ladder moment he’s having at the point of death, but we don’t give that away until after season seven. And there’s a snow globe. Now I’ve given it away. Bollocks!
“It’s a weird little yes and no. As far as I’m concerned in the films, yes he’s dead. In terms of the narrative of these guys
TERA: Gunner Class Revealed
For its newest player class, TERA brings out the big guns. Like, really big. The Gunner, as it's called, can only be played by the lithe high elves and '80s glam queen-like Castanics, and in their hands they look a little like a locomotive caught in the branches of a sapling pine. They also pose an interesting question—when you can have guns this big and powerful in the world of Arborea, why even bother with the swords and recurve bows lugged around by the game's other classes?
Indeed, playing the Gunner feels a little like playing the Terminator in the world of Lord of the Rings. It's all focused on making big, bad things go boom, regardless of whether it's by pelting them with purple "mana missiles" or through an arc bomb that rolls along the ground like a bowling ball before exploding and unsettling all but the biggest "BAMs" (big-ass monsters). Fire at the ground with Rocket Jump, and boom, you go catapulting to safety.
Extended Avengers: Age of Ultron Cut is Coming
Avengers: Age of Ultron is yet to hit screens in a number of territories, but we’re already hearing news that when the film is released on Blu-ray and DVD, it will be in extended form.
ScreenCrush spotted the announcement, which came via an email from Amazon in which pre-order was announced, with both Blu-ray and DVD including “an extended version and an alternate ending.”
There’s no word yet regarding what those changes and extended scenes might be, though Joss Whedon has previously revealed that his original cut of the movie was more than three hours long, so there’s no lack of potential material.
Telepresence Robot Mimics Your Every Move Using the Oculus Rift
A team of researchers at the University of Pennsylvania have developed a physical-virtual interface (PVI) by combining the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and teleoperated robotics.
Dexterous Observational Roving Automaton, or DORA, is unlike most other telepresence robots on the market by offering greater and flexibility immersion within the environment. DORA’s swiveling head mimics the movements of the user’s head, allowing them to freely look around the environment without having to move a whole robotic rig. The user can also view the feed in 3D via the headset thanks to DORA’s dual cameras copying our stereoscopic vision.
