Dragon Age: Inquisition Wins GOTY at the DICE Awards 2015

The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences has declared BioWare's Dragon Age: Inquisition Game of the Year in 2014 at its 18th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards in Las Vegas.

The win was unexpected, as  Monolith's Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor won 8 out of the 9 awards it was nominated for (DAI was only nominated for two).

The announcement was made at the Pete Holmes-hosted affair at The Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, which honoured mainstream and independent video games across 23 categories. Other notable winners were Destiny which nabbed 4 gongs, and Hearthstone, which nabbed 2.

The Academy also celebrated pioneers Allan Alcorn, creator of Pong, and "the father of video games" Ralph Baer, as well as Apple's App Store in its inaugural Technical Impact Award. Oh, and best joke of the evening went to this zinger in Holmes' intro speech: "the video industry creates hundreds of jobs a year...for Troy Baker".
