While chatting to MTV at the Sundance Film Festival, Robbie said, “Yeah, I guess it’s intimidating because there’s obviously a lot of people I want to please, and a character I have to do justice. But it’s a challenge, I’m definitely up for it, and hopefully I don’t disappoint.”

Scientists Create Real-Life Star Trek Teleporter

Scientists have created a real-life teleport system that can scan an object and "beam it" to another location.

Well. Kind of.

The system - dubbed "Scotty" after the dematerialisation method was made famous by sci-fi series Star Trek - works via a system that uses destructive scanning and 3D printing, so rather than transport the item, it files down the object by layer, scans it, then replicates it via 3D printing in an alternate location.

As this system ensures that there's only one version of the object at any one time, it differs from previous teleport attempts that merely duplicates items.

“We present a simple self-contained appliance that allows relocating inanimate physical objects across distance,” said the German team, via The Guardianin a paper submitted to the Stanford University's Tangible, Embedded and Embodied Interaction conference. “Users place an object into the sender unit, enter the address of a receiver unit, and press the relocate button.”
